Description Atheros Communications is a global leader in innovative technologies for wireless and wired communications products. Atheros combines its wireless and networking systems expertise with high-performance radio frequency (RF), mixed signal and digital semiconductor design skills to provide highly integrated chipsets that are manufactured on low-cost, standard complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) processes. History Atheros Communications was founded in May 1998 by leading experts in radio and signal processing from Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley, and private industry.
   
IPO February 12, 2004.  Underwritten by Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, Banc of America Securities and Thomas Weisel Partners at an offering price of $14.00 with 10,350,000 shares sold in the offering.

WLAN Networking – Atheros AR9000, AR5008, AR5007, AR5006, AR5005 and AR5004 families of wireless LAN chips feature breakthrough 802.11 wireless networking technologies. When incorporated into WLAN devices, Atheros chipsets offer higher performance, extended coverage, longer battery life and advanced features to enhance the user experience.

Atheros XSPAN® and XSPAN with Signal Sustain Technology™ (SST), based on the IEEE draft 11n multi-stream specification, provide the highest performance WLAN solutions on the market. XSPAN’s AR5008, AR9001, AR9002, AR9220 and AR9223 draft 802.11n solutions deliver the ultimate advanced multimedia networking performance for triple-play with video, voice and data transmissions throughout the home and office. Atheros’ AR9280 and AR9281 are the industry’s most integrated, single-chip draft 802.11n solutions optimized for PCIe, and the
AR9002AP supports the highest performance dual-band AP/router solutions. Atheros XSPAN draft 802.11n chips offer a superior wireless experience by delivering physical data rates up to 300 megabits-per-second (Mbps), providing six times the throughput and more than two times the range of legacy 802.11g and 802.11a/g networks.

Atheros Align™ offers a comprehensive portfolio of WLAN solutions based on the IEEE draft 802.11n 1-stream specification. With up to 150 Mbps PHY rates, Align solutions deliver 5 times the actual throughput and double the coverage of legacy 11g. Featuring the AR9002AP-1S for retail AP/routers, the AR9285 single-chip PCIe for PCs, and the AR9271 embedded USB for carrier/gateways and consumer electronics, Align solutions are forward compatible to higher-performance, multi-stream, MIMO-based draft 802.11n – providing the optimal
upgrade path for value-class WLAN products.

Mobile WLAN – Atheros’ innovative ROCm® Radio-on-Chip for Mobile platforms for WLAN feature the AR6002 solutions, available in industry-leading, small form factors for consumer products such as dual-mode cellular phones, gaming devices, VoIP handsets, portable media players and digital still/video cameras. The AR6002 solutions deliver extraordinarily low battery impact with the industry’s lowest-power active mode, and nearzero power consumption in standby.

Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet – Atheros provides its extensive customer base of PC OEMs and networking equipment customers with its family of Atheros ETHOS™ Ethernet solutions. This growing portfolio features both Gigabit and Fast Ethernet options for switch, controller and PHY products. ETHOS high-performance, low-power solutions bring the engineering capabilities Atheros has built in the wireless market to the Ethernet market, to
deliver superior user experiences with PC and networking products for the home and SMB.

GPS – Atheros offers industry-leading ROCm for GPS single-chip receivers, featuring the AR1511 in combination with its high-performance ORION™ 3.0 software to enable a growing array of location-based mobile devices including PNDs, mobile handsets, PMPs, PCs and personal mobile products. The AR1511 and companion Orion 3.0 deliver high performance AGPS technology to provide faster reacquisition time, greater position accuracy and longer battery life for an enhanced user experience.

Bluetooth – Atheros’ ROCm portfolio for Bluetooth™ products features our AR3011 for PCs which supports the new Bluetooth v3.0 + High Speed specification to give users the benefits of the simplicity of Bluetooth pairing and operation combined with the speed and energy efficiency of 802.11. Atheros’ Bluetooth 3.0 solutions leverage our high-performance 802.11a/g/n technology to increase the speed of Bluetooth by more than 10 times. This expanded bandwidth supports advanced multimedia applications and robust point-to point connectivity to enhance the user experience.
