CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2002 — D-Link and Atheros Communications are
working together to deliver high-speed Wireless LAN solutions which will be shown for the
first time at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2002. The industry-leading Atheros AR5000
chipset will power D-Link's new high-speed D-Link AirPro 802.11a WLAN product series.
These new D-Link AirPro products will operate in the 5.2GHz frequency band and are ideal
for businesses with bandwidth-hungry WLAN applications.
D-Link is debuting its new 802.11a WLAN solutions in the Las Vegas Convention Center,
Booth #11801 in South Hall 3, from Jan. 8-11.
"Atheros' AR5000 chipset, with its 5GHz 'Radio-on-a-Chip' technology, delivers faster
throughput and increased security options for our D-Link AirPro line of wireless products,
" said Bradley Morse, vice president of marketing at D-Link. "The Atheros chipset provides
us with a powerful foundation for delivering cutting-edge 802.11a technology and robust
connectivity to our customers."
"D-Link is a well established worldwide leader in networking and communications technologies,
and we are excited to be working with them on IEEE 802.11a WLAN solutions," said Mark Bercow,
vice president of marketing at Atheros Communications. "The new D-Link AirPro line of 802.11a
solutions will highlight our chipset's capabilities by delivering feature-rich functionality
and superior performance."
The Atheros AR5000 chipset provides full wireless LAN connectivity compliant with the IEEE
802.11a 5GHz standard. The company's breakthrough architecture consists of a highly integrated
two-chip solution. The AR5000 is the world's first complete 5GHz "Radio-on-a-Chip" (RoC) and
MAC/baseband processor fabricated exclusively in standard-process digital CMOS. By packing a
complete wireless LAN solution into two chips, the AR5000 delivers cost-effective, robust
connectivity at far higher data rates than were previously possible. The AR5000 supports
all 802.11a data rates up to 54 Mbps, as well as extended rates up to 72 Mbps in Atheros
Turbo Mode(TM).
D-Link's new D-Link AirPro 802.11a WLAN product series will include both the D-Link AirPro
Wireless DWL-A520 802.11a PCI adapter and the D-Link AirPro DWL-A650 802.11a Wireless PC Card
adapter, as well as the D-Link AirPro DWL-5000AP 802.11a Wireless Access Point.
