D-Link Incorporates Atheros
Technology into 802.11a/b/g and 802.11b/g-based WLAN Product Lines
Companies Extend the Reach of Their Partnership to
Include Performance Enhancing Standards-plus Features
SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 4, 2003—Atheros
Communications and D-Link today announced a broad strategic partnership to
deliver the latest 802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g technologies to market Atheros’
advanced multi-mode WLAN technology in a wide array of D-Link 802.11b/g and
802.11a/b/g products. D-Link is using Atheros’ market-leading 802.11b/g and
802.11a/b/g chipsets in its wireless routers and access points, CardBus
adapters, PCI adapters and a range of OEM products.
The two companies have also
extended their partnership, enabling D-Link to be first-to-market at the end of
Q3 with higher performance WLAN products based on Atheros’ Super G® and
Super AG® standards-plus performance enhancements.
Super G and Super A/G
performance-enhancing capabilities deliver significant actual end user TCP/IP
throughput for 802.11a/b/g, 802.11b/g and 802.11a WLANs. Super G and Super A/G
are backward compatible with conventional 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11a products.
The features support mixed-mode operation with Atheros and third-party solutions
in the same network.
“Atheros continues to be a
strategic partner, and we are expanding our relationship to introduce new
products that address the changing needs of our home and business customers,”
said Steven Joe, president of D-Link.
D-Link’s commitment to multi-mode
802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g technologies is consistent with the entire WLAN
market’s move toward products supporting the faster speeds of multi-band
802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g technologies.
In a separate press release last
week, Atheros announced that it shipped more than 1 million 802.11b/g and
802.11a/b/g chips in June, a new monthly record for the company. These
developments are a reflection of the market’s rapid transition from legacy
802.11b products to 802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g products in home and business
environments.
“As a leading provider of WLAN
consumer products—D-Link has offered an extensive product portfolio of advanced
multi-mode wireless LAN products based on the 802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g
technologies,” said Craig Barratt, president and chief executive officer of
Atheros. “Through our partnership, Atheros will continue to provide D-Link with
the latest and most advanced WLAN technology available, to support its effort to
deliver the best-performing and most feature rich WLAN products available.”
