Atheros Features 802.11a/b/g and 802.11b/g Products
from Leading Retail Partners at NetWorld+Interop
Wireless Devices from D-Link, Linksys, NETGEAR and SMC Networks Deliver
Universal Connectivity to Any 802.11 Wireless LAN
NETWORLD+INTEROP, LAS VEGAS,
April 29, 2003—Atheros Communications, the leading developer of advanced
wireless LAN (WLAN) technology, is featuring its latest multimode design
wins—802.11a/b/g and 802.11b/g products from D-Link, Linksys, NETGEAR and SMC
Networks—at the NetWorld+Interop Conference.
802.11a/b/g and 802.11b/g WLAN products deliver
data transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps in 11a and 11g modes, five times faster
than 11b-only products. These products provide the highest performance possible
while maintaining backwards compatibility with existing 802.11b wireless
networks and products. Users benefit from seamless roaming across any
802.11-based network at work, at home, or in rapidly emerging public hot spots.
“The availability of
universal 802.11a/b/g wireless clients from every major retailer makes it
possible for consumers to connect to any wireless LAN. These full function, dual
band 802.11a/b/g products are hitting the market with street prices below $70,
about the same price as single band 802.11b/g clients,” said Craig Barratt,
president and chief executive officer of Atheros. “With the ability to access
any single-mode or multimode Wi-Fi access point and take advantage of over five
times the number of channels, universal wireless is the easy, future proof
choice.”
Atheros’ AR5001X+
and AR5001G WLAN chipsets provide multimode, universal wireless access
technology for the market’s leading 11a/b/g and 11b/g products. AR5001X+ and
AR5001G chipsets have been shipping in volume since February 2003, and are
integrated into new notebooks by leading PC OEMs, as well as embedded in retail
and enterprise CardBus Adapters, PCI Adapters, Access Points and Home
Gateways/Routers. The products support 802.11a, 802.11b, and the latest Draft
8.1 revision of 802.11g. Published reviews of products below show at least a 30
percent throughput advantage over 802.11g products based on competing chipsets.
