Names Craig Barratt President and CEO Rich Redelfs Appointed
Vice Chairman of the Board
- Atheros
Communications Inc. today announced that Dr. Craig Barratt has been appointed
president and chief executive officer. Barratt joined Atheros in April
2002, as vice president of technology. Former CEO Rich Redelfs will take
on the new role of vice chairman of the board of directors. Barratt's
appointment has been planned for several months and is intended to usher the
company into its next stage of growth.
“Rich helped build a tremendous
executive team and did an excellent job piloting the company from an innovative
start-up to a market leader in a very short period of time,” said John Hennessy,
chairman of the board of directors for Atheros. “We are very excited about
Craig’s appointment as president and CEO. His deep understanding of wireless
systems and his strong track record of operational excellence make him the
perfect choice to extend Atheros’ technology leadership position in the WLAN
market and help the company move into new application areas that will enhance
its future business growth.”
Barratt has been heavily involved
in business, technology and application development for Atheros, and in his new
role will help the company extend its leadership position in WLAN products for
the enterprise and home, diversify its customer base, and further expand into
new markets such as consumer electronics. Barratt will build upon Redelfs’
accomplishments, which saw Atheros deliver the world’s first 802.11a chipsets
and the multi-mode (802.11a/b and a/g/b) WLAN chipsets now favored by four of
the world’s top five PC manufacturers.
“Atheros dominates the multi-mode
WLAN market and is a leading provider of 802.11g draft standard solutions,” said
Dr. Barratt. “I aim to leverage our technology and performance edge to expand
our position in existing and emerging markets. The marketplace is rapidly
transitioning to higher performance and multi-mode products, which will continue
to drive our growth."
Barratt’s transition to CEO is
effective immediately. Prior to his role as vice president of technology for
Atheros, Barratt served as executive vice president and general manager at
ArrayComm Inc., a wireless technology company that has deployed its technology
in over 100,000 wireless base stations. Barratt holds a doctorate in electrical
engineering from Stanford University
