Juniper Networks’ Popular
NetScreen-5GT Firewall Security Appliance Goes Wireless with Atheros
Communications
Atheros to Provide Best-of-Breed Wireless to
Support Juniper Networks Remote Office Security Platform
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 8, 2005—Atheros
Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHR), a leading developer of advanced wireless
LAN (WLAN) chipsets, today announced that Juniper Networks has selected its
AR5005AP-G wireless LAN chipset to provide 802.11g support for its newly
introduced next-generation NetScreen-5GT Wireless firewall and virtual private
network (VPN) appliance. The Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GT Wireless integrates
Deep Inspection and stateful firewall capabilities, VPN, denial-of-service (DoS)
protection, wireless connectivity and optional embedded antivirus functionality,
in a single platform without sacrificing performance. The cost-effective
security and connectivity solution is targeted at remote offices, telecommuters
and medium-sized businesses.
“For the Juniper
Networks NetScreen-5GT Wireless remote office product, Atheros was our clear
choice for secure and assured wireless connectivity,” said Adam Conway, senior
product line manager, Juniper Networks. “Atheros delivers strong security,
robust performance as well as reliable connectivity that our enterprise-class
customers demand for their secure wireless applications.”
The AR5005AP-G
features a built-in Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption engine,
enabling real-time support for full 802.11i security, which is the foundation of
the WPA2 security protocol. Atheros was the first company to support 802.11 AES
encryption in hardware, introducing the technology with the launch of its
dual-mode products in 2002. AES encryption is supported by all of Atheros
802.11a/b/g and 802.11b/g chipsets, allowing real-time encryption with no
degradation of operating data rates for the computing, consumer electronics and
wireless broadband markets.
Juniper Networks selected Atheros for its ability to support network
segmentation or virtual access points (APs). With Atheros’ technology,
NetScreen-5GT can support multiple SSIDs to create up to four discrete wireless
security zones of access to better protect the network and resources.
“We’re pleased that Juniper has turned to Atheros to provide high-performance
wireless for its NetScreen-5GT security appliance,” said Tom Foster, vice
president of worldwide sales at Atheros Communications. “Our high performance
wireless solution is a great complement to Juniper’s integrated firewall/VPN
product.”
