Branding Program
SUNNYVALE, Calif., July
20, 2004
Atheros Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHR) today announced that
the company's Super AGŪ
and Super GŪ
technologies, which dramatically increase the throughput of wireless LAN
communications, have been adopted by the majority of Japanese wireless LAN
equipment vendors and PC manufacturers. The company also announced that many
of these vendors are branding product with Super AGŪ and Super G logos to
communicate to end users the presence of these advanced technologies within
select devices. For the list of manufacturers that have adopted Atheros
Super AGŪ and Super G technologies and logos, please see the Note to Editors
below.
The Super AGŪ/G logo is
being placed on PCs and wireless LAN equipment that use the technology and
are offered by companies who participate in the branding program. The logos
are also being included on product spec sheets, brochures and websites to
highlight the wireless technology capability. With Super logos, end users
are able to easily identify and select products that offer Super AGŪ/G
interoperability across different brands.
"The Atheros Total
802.11 Branding Program, which began in September 2003, has been widely
accepted by our customers and has achieved strong momentum in the market,"
said Tomoki Ohsawa, General Manager of Atheros Communications K.K. "With the
Super AGŪ and Super G brands, we are enabling our customers to easily convey
to users the high-performance capabilities of their Atheros- based wireless
LAN products."
Atheros expects its
Super AGŪ and Super G technologies will be adopted into more PCs and wireless
LAN products in the future. In addition, home digital products such as TVs
and video game consoles, as well as mobile phones and telematics have
started to deploy wireless LAN features, and Atheros also expects its
technology to be used in these fields.
About Super G and Super AGŪ Technology
Atheros Super G and
Super AGŪ technology employs innovative performance- enhancement features --
including packet bursting, fast frames, and data compression -- that improve
the throughput and range of wireless networking products. The technology
delivers user link rates up to two times faster than standard 802.11g or
802.11a/g products while preserving full compatibility with standard IEEE
802.11g or 802.11a/g networks. Super G and Super AGŪ support up to 54 Mbps
data rates for users in Japan, with typical end-user throughputs as high as
40 Mbps. Outside Japan, with a dynamic turbo mode activated, the technology
can achieve throughputs of more than 60 Mbps for typical data. This is the
highest throughput performance available on the market today. Atheros
chipsets with Super G and Super AGŪ technologies have shipped since the
second quarter of 2003.
